How to calculate gravel
Cubic yards = length x width (ft) x depth (in) / 12 / 27. Quarries usually sell by the ton: most gravel and crushed stone weighs about 1.4 tons per cubic yard.
Add about 10% for compaction. Driveways typically need 4 to 6 inches of base gravel plus 2 inches of top layer.
