How to estimate drywall
Wall area = room perimeter x wall height. Subtract about 20 sq ft per door and 15 sq ft per window, add the ceiling if you are hanging it, then divide by the sheet size: 32 sq ft for 4x8, 48 sq ft for 4x12.
Add 10% for cuts and breakage, more for rooms with many corners. Larger 4x12 sheets mean fewer seams and less taping, but need two people to hang.
Questions
How many sheets of drywall for a 12 x 12 room?
With 8 ft walls, one door, two windows and no ceiling, about 330 sq ft of wall. That is roughly 12 sheets of 4x8 with 10% waste.
How many screws per sheet of drywall?
About 32 screws for a 4x8 sheet on walls, roughly one per square foot. Ceilings need slightly closer spacing.
How much joint tape do I need?
A common rule is about 370 feet of tape per 1,000 sq ft of drywall.
